A Mexican medical transport plane carrying eight people crashed into the water off the Texas coast near Galveston, killing at least three, according to local authorities.
Mexico’s Navy said the aircraft was on a medical mission in coordination with the Michou and Mou Foundation, a non-profit that assists pediatric burn victims. The plane had departed from Mexico and was approaching Scholes International Airport around 3:20 p.m. local time when it went down.
Video from the scene showed search and rescue teams and divers working in dense fog as authorities continued recovery efforts. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
