In an interview with Outlook, the Unnao rape survivor expressed deep anguish over the Delhi High Court’s relief to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the rape case. She said that she and her family feel threatened, as Sengar remains powerful and “can harm us anytime”.
The survivor and her mother have been protesting in the Capital against the court order, but said they were stopped by paramilitary personnel from addressing the media. Calling the judgment “completely shocking”, she said, “We have gone back and forth with the judiciary for so many years, and this is the outcome? We just want justice, and we still have full faith in the Supreme Court.”
Her lawyer, Mahmood Parcha, said the decision is a “murder of justice” and appealed to the entire country to stand with the survivor and raise their voices.
She also said she met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who assured her of support, and has appealed to the Prime Minister, expressing her wish to meet him, even as political outrage over the court decision continues to escalate.
