The National Institute of Meteorology has issued an orange alert for intense heat in southeastern Brazil, where temperatures are expected to rise several degrees above the December average. Civil Defence reported storms in seven cities over the past 24 hours, with Santa Maria recording 80 millimetres of rain in just eight hours. A bridge was destroyed by river overflow in Candelária, while flooding left 80 families isolated in Passa Sete. Authorities also issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the Midwest, the North, and parts of Maranhão and Piauí.
