New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Swiss Alps turned tragic when a packed bar in Crans-Montana erupted in flames. Swiss police say around 40 people were killed and more than 115 injured as fire tore through Le Constellation during midnight festivities.

The bar was crowded with over 150 revelers when an explosion in the basement sent flames racing upward. Eyewitnesses describe panic and chaos, with one survivor calling it a nightmare. Investigators say a candle near the wooden ceiling may have triggered a sudden flashover.
