The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band – Where's My Daddy? 1969 (USA, Psychedelic Rock)
The band's records weren't selling as well as Reprise had hoped, and after "Vol. 3," the label released the musicians from their contract. Sean and Danny tried to break free of Bob and, together with Michael, formed the touring band "California Spectrum." However, it soon became clear that this band's concerts weren't in demand, so "The West Coast Art Pop Experimental Band" reunited and recorded "Where's My Daddy?", a disc noticeably weaker than its predecessor.
Is this my guilty pleasure? I have a bit of a problem when people completely dislike albums just because they are diffent to the previous records of the same band. Looking at the low ratings of this album this might be the case here as well. But is it really so bad? Hell no! Listening to the album is really fun! Well, it’s more sunshine pop than a psychedelic trip. But once you get over it, I think it is really an enjoyable record with diverse and catchy tunes.
I must say that English is not my mother tongue and therefore do not consider lyrics as a major part of my reviews. I just listen to the music as a whole occasionally paying attention to the lyrics. Might be that some English native speakers the lyrics here are just too bonkers.
If you have a sweet spot for occasional pop melodies galore I recommend listening to this album over any Beach Boys album.rev_rev Dec 24 2020
