Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi welcomed the US military withdrawal from Iraq’s Ain al-Assad base as a “clear sign of independence, stability, and political sovereignty” in Iraq.
During a high-level meeting in Tehran with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, both leaders emphasized regional security coordination, non-interference in internal affairs, and strong bilateral ties.
The withdrawal is part of a phased 2024 security pact between Baghdad and Washington, marking the end of the international coalition’s combat mission against ISIS in Iraq. Iraqi forces have now taken full control of the base.
Araghchi also discussed the recent protests and unrest in Iran, highlighting Iraq’s support and solidarity while stressing regional stability as a shared responsibility.
