US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 200 per cent tariffs on French wine and champagne after Paris signalled it may decline his invitation to join a proposed “Board of Peace.” Trump escalated the row by posting on Truth Social a private message from French President Emmanuel Macron referencing Greenland.

The attack followed French mockery of Washington, including criticism of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s explanation of Trump’s focus on the Arctic territory. “I’ll put a 200 per cent tariff on his wines and champagnes,” Trump said, insisting Macron would eventually join the board, originally framed around rebuilding Gaza.
