Ryan James Wedding, a Canadian former Olympic snowboarder, was arrested in Mexico on Thursday, accused of leading one of the most violent drug trafficking operations in recent history. FBI Director Kash Patel said the 44-year-old had been hiding in Mexico for over a decade while operating as part of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Authorities allege Wedding moved hundreds of kilograms of Cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California into the U.S. and Canada. Patel described his fall as extraordinary, calling Wedding a “modern-day El Chapo” and “Pablo Escobar” who believed he could evade justice.
