Satresnarkoba Polres Lampung Selatan foiled an attempt to smuggle 122.52 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, concealed beneath 8 tons of jackfruit cargo, at Bakauheni Port on Saturday (12/27).
Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf stated that the drugs are estimated to have an economic value of approximately Rp122.5 billion. This amount is considered potentially destructive to the future of over 612,000 individuals.
“Assuming an economic value of around one million rupiah per gram, the value of these 122.515 kilograms is Rp122.5 billion. Based on the seized evidence, the number of lives potentially saved reaches 612,575 people,” said Helfi.
In uncovering this case, police arrested three suspects with the initials WS (the escort), R (the driver), and S (the driver's assistant). R and S admitted to being promised a reward of Rp100 million each, along with assistance for house repairs damaged by a flash flood in Aceh, by an individual with the initials SEM. Police have now named SEM a Wanted List Suspect (DPO).
The suspects are charged under Pasal 114 paragraph (2), Pasal 112 paragraph (2), and Pasal 132 paragraph (1) of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
