Two armed and masked robbers carried out a daring daylight robbery at a jewellery store in Halsangi village of Chadachan taluk, Vijayapura district, on Monday afternoon, looting gold and silver worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to police, the accused stormed into Maharudra Kanchagar’s jewellery shop around 4 pm, pointed a pistol at the owner and staff, and fired two shots in the air to create panic. They escaped with 305 grams of gold and 1.5 kg of silver.
During the incident, a bystander, Atmalinga Hugar, was injured when a bullet fired by the robbers hit him. Another local, Anil, was reportedly targeted when he tried to record the incident, but the shot struck someone else standing nearby.
CCTV footage shows the two men wearing helmets, monkey caps, black jackets, gloves, and arriving on a black Honda Unicorn motorcycle, which they used to flee the scene. One robber is seen looting jewellery while the other holds staff at gunpoint. A woman outside the shop was also threatened.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation based on CCTV footage. Officials suspect the accused may have fled towards Maharashtra.
A distraught shop owner, Maharudra, told the media that the stolen jewellery was his family’s livelihood and that they were already struggling with debts.
The incident has shaken the local community and raised concerns over rising daylight crimes in the region.
