A disturbing incident was reported from Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) on the morning of January 30, 2026, where a passenger was allegedly abused and assaulted by a private bus driver after objecting to rash and dangerous driving.

According to the complaint, a private bus named ‘Shankar’ was travelling from the old bus stand to the new bus stand around 7 am. The driver was reportedly driving at a very high speed and in a reckless manner, putting passengers at risk.

Concerned for his safety, one of the passengers warned the driver and conductor, saying, “Don’t drive so fast, or drop me down and let me go.” However, instead of slowing down, the driver allegedly continued driving dangerously on purpose, despite repeated objections from the passenger.

Upon reaching the new Trichy bus stand, the situation escalated. The driver allegedly used obscene and abusive language against the passenger and physically assaulted him. The incident was captured on video by another person present at the spot.

The victim later obtained the video footage and filed a complaint at the police station, submitting details of the incident along with the bus registration number. Police have taken note of the complaint and further action is expected.

The video of the assault has since surfaced on social media, drawing public outrage over passenger safety and the conduct of private bus staff.
