A tourist has captured rare footage of an elusive "skunk dolphin" while on an expedition — and the marine mammals showed no fear toward their human observers. Rich Brand, 49, was off the coast of Saunders Island in the Falkland Islands when four of the rare "skunk" or "panda" dolphins — which are officially known as Commerson's dolphins — appeared, swimming right up to Brand. The animals have earned these nicknames for their bold black-and-white markings that resemble those of some land animals. Brand's footage of the animals shows the dolphins displaying their unique markings and coming up close to humans, seemingly unafraid and curious about the visitors.
