The piece of land in the middle of a plantation area in Kangkar Pulai was believed to have been abandoned for years before becoming the home of murder victims whose skeletal remains were found recently.

A local farmer, who owns a nearby durian orchard, said a family moved into one of the vacant houses about two months ago.

He described the group as largely reclusive, keeping mostly to themselves.
