“The message that I hope is being received through my art is to be resilient, to be fearless, to be authentic, and to stand in your Blackness,” Meyers says.
Earlier this year, artist Jade Meyers, unveiled her first mural for the I Am New Orleans project, a community-led campaign designed to inspire conversation and action throughout her city.

Now, she is revealing the second installment of this initiative, an amazing mural located on the Andrew P. Sanchez building in the Lower Ninth Ward. “I love this project so much. It has been a labor of love, and it truly brings so much vibrancy to this community,” Meyers tells ESSENCE.

“I just can’t wait for the community’s response to the mural,” she continued. “I just want to make sure I’m doing my due diligence, and making sure that this community is heard and impacted through it.”

As a visual artist, singer, and conservationist advocate, Meyers feels that as a creative, her craft is constantly questioned and challenged, but sees it as a “beautiful challenge,” above all. Through her work, the artist’s goal is that viewers can pull positivity from it, especially amidst the world we live in today.

“The message that I hope is being received through my art is to be resilient, to be fearless, to be authentic, and to stand in your Blackness,” Meyers says. “To stand in that power that God has given us, because we are powerful people, and we should not be afraid, we should not be ashamed, and we should embrace our beauty, and our struggle.”
