The Bail (Amendment) Bill 2026 brought by Defence Minister Wayne Sturge has been challenged on the aspect of it needing a Simple Majority to be passed.
The Minister's signaled intention is to correct a mishap he says was created by the then government, now Opposition.
But Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi contends that the Bill not only infringes on parts of the Constitution but also amends integral parts of the parent law.
