A female bank employee at an HDFC Bank branch in Kanpur, whose video went viral over an alleged altercation, has issued a clarification, claiming the clip is being circulated in a misleading context.

Relationship Manager Aastha Singh, posted at the HDFC Bank branch in Panki, released a video statement with folded hands, saying she never misbehaved with any customer. She stated that the dispute was with the husband of a female contractual employee and not with a customer.

According to Aastha, the incident dates back to January 6. She said the contractual employee had resigned and wanted to be relieved the same day, while her sister-in-law remained present at the branch for hours, leading to a minor argument. Later in the evening, the employee’s husband allegedly came to the bank, used abusive language, questioned Aastha about her caste, and issued threats.

“I was angered after being asked about my caste and spoken to rudely. I stand by my statement even today. I am a Thakur, and I am proud of it,” Aastha said, adding that some of her words could have been chosen more carefully.

The viral video shows her allegedly abusing and attempting to attack someone with a laptop. Aastha claimed the footage is being portrayed as a caste-related issue, which she denied. She said she has informed her seniors through an internal email and is considering legal action.

Speaking to the media, Aastha also alleged that after the video went viral, she has been subjected to online abuse, including threats of rape and physical harm. “I am becoming famous in the wrong way,” she said, adding that she may file a defamation case.

Police or bank authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
