東京水上倶楽部とは
東京水上倶楽部(創業1918年)とは、東京で一番最初に出来たボート場です。
（千鳥ヶ淵は後に船大工さんを紹介して作ったそうです。）　
1918年当時、東京には都民の為のレクリエーション施設などが無い状況でした。

そこで、初代東京市長である後藤新平氏と古川清（オーナーの祖父）が都民の為に何かで きないかと考えた結果、外堀を利用したボート場建設を発案するに至りました。この計画 の背景には当時の日本人の骨格が欧米人に比べて貧弱であることも含まれていたようです 。　

しかし、当時は東京市に施設を作る財政は無く、古川清が私財を持ち出し、郷里より船大 工を連れて現在の場所（飯田橋）に100艘からの舟を作ったそうです。　当時は一度に10人以上も乗れる舟がありました。（皇族の方々にもご利用頂いたそうで す）もちろん、現在でも東京水上倶楽部はボート営業をしております。
