Wayne Rooney hobbled off the field in the last minute to complete a miserable night for Manchester United as they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in Germany.

Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic scored in stoppage time to give his team a dramatic victory against the Reds in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Croatian international Olic scored from close range with almost the last kick of the match to hand United their first away loss in the competition this season.

To add insult to injury, Rooney hurt his ankle in the build-up to Bayern's winner and had to be helped from the field by medical staff.

Earlier Franck Ribery equalised in the 77th minute with a deflected free-kick to cancel out a second-minute volley from England striker Rooney.

In the night's other Champions League quarter-final Lyon beat Bordeaux 3-1 in the first-leg of the all-French affair.
