A crater and heaps of mangled steel a day after a suicide bomber attacked this police base in Dagestan, the Russian republic on the Caspian Sea.
Officials say the man drove a van to the base's entrance and blew himself up, unleashing a blast which was equivalent to over 300 pounds of dynamite.
The impact charred buildings in the immediate area and ripped through a parking lot of police vehicles.
One policeman is dead and at least eight people are injured.
The incident comes a few days after rebels staged a suicide attack on neighboring Chechnya's parliament, killing three people.
