John Travolta and Kelly Preston have announced the birth of a baby boy named Benjamin.

An official statement from the couple said: "John and Kelly are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family. Both mother and baby are healthy and doing beautifully."

The 56-year-old actor and Preston, 48, also have a 10-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.

Scientologist Kelly is thought to have had a silent birth at a hospital in Florida.

The news comes almost two years after the pair lost their son Jett on a family holiday in the Bahamas. Jett, who reportedly suffered from autism, died of a fatal seizure.
