Model and Capital Radio host Lisa Snowdon is recovering in hospital after contracting viral meningitis.

After switching on the Bond Street Christmas lights in London, the 38 year old complained of feeling unwell and was rushed to hospital .

As well as exhibiting flu like symptoms, the star is also reported to have suffered from 'major aches and pains' and a migraine.

Meanwhile the Capital Radio Breakfast Show, which Snowdon presents alongside Jonny Vaughan, has been taken over by The Satuday's singer Frankie Sandford.

Snowdon has reportedly been warned that recovery from meningitis is a long term process and that it is unlikely that she will be able to return to work for up to a month.

Viral meningitis is not as serious as bacterial meningitis, which effects the fluids surrounding the brain and can be deadly.

Lisa is one of the stars of the current Marks and Spencer's Christmas advert in which she recreates festive scenes alongside Dannii Minogue, Twiggy and Peter Kay.
