The 2010 Nobel week is underway. All the laureates have arrived to Stockholm in Sweden, followed by many reporters. NTD News talked to one of this year’s winners.

This year’s Nobel Prize laureates have arrived in Stockholm for the Nobel Week. They will collect their prizes money of 10 million Swedish Krona (1.46 million U.S. Dollars).

NTD News talked to one of the Physics Prize Winners Andre Geim from Manchester University. He and his colleague, Konstantin Novoselov, received the Prize for their research on the carbon material Graphene. It is one of the strongest materials known to man.

The Nobel Prize winner explains what it is to be a scientist.

[Professor Andre Geim, Nobel Prize Winner in Physics]:
“Life in science is not a hundred-meter(s) race, if you get a high mark from a university it's a must, you have to have high marks, this tells about your abilities, but it's a marathon, you have to learn for your life, and run really fast because global competition is huge.”

Andre Geim and the other laureates have been conducting lectures, holding press conferences and attending receptions this week.

The grand finale is on Friday the 10th when all laureates from 2010 will receive their Nobel Prize Medal from the Swedish King Carl 16th Gustav followed by the Banquet in the evening.

[Doctor Irina Grigorieva, Wife of Andre Geim]:
“Everybody says that I´m going to sit next to the King, you know it’s not an experience I ever expected, so of course it's very exciting."

Royalties and Ministers from various countries will attend the celebrations in Stockholm on Friday. The Chinese Embassy has reportedly turned down the invitation without giving a reason.

Swedish media suggest that it is a protest for rewarding this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to the jailed Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo.
