Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have announced their split after two years of marriage.

The couple issued a statement confirming the break up after rumours appeared yesterday on a US magazine website.

In the statement they said: "We've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it".

The pair married in a secret ceremony in Canada in 2008 after meeting in 2007.

Before dating the Lost in Translation star, Reynolds, who's best known for playing college stud Van Wilder, had been engaged to singer Alanis Morissette.
