Government forces under Philippine president Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino (mother of present president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III) opened fire at a peasant mobilization calling for Genuine Land Reform on January 22, 1987 at Mendiola bridge, Manila. Dubbed as the Mendiola Massacre that killed 13 peasant activists.
