Dr. Norman currently teaches social epidemiology and demography at the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her research interest in HIV prevention is in conjunction with studies of drug use and how misinformation regarding the spread of the deadly virus can be costly to persons at risk. She has received grants from Pfizer and the Research Centers in Minority Institutions. She previously lived, worked and studied in Jamaica, and conducted studies on how behavioral patterns and cultural beliefs impacted subjects’ knowledge. She hopes to receive additional backing that would provide for universal testing for HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
