The magnificent Spotted Eagle Ray flies through the water with its wing-like fins. The Eagle Ray’s large wings are tapered like a bird’s and can measure up to 9 feet across. The length of the body without the tail can be up to 8 feet, and total length with the tail can be 28 feet long. This beautiful ray can reach weights up to 500 pounds.

The Eagle Ray’s shovel-shaped snout and it’s duckbilled mouth are extremely sensitive to smells and electrical currents in the water. This makes the Eagle Ray an effective hunter. It has flat plates of teeth which it uses to feed on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish.

Spotted Eagle Rays are strong swimmers, often swimming close to the surface, and can occasionally be seen jumping clear out of the water. Eagle Rays have one of the largest brain weight to body weight ratios of any fish.
