Welcome to today's episode of the Femmeonomics' (http://femme-o-nomics.com) day in review. All the news professional women need to know, with a little bit of attitude:
Michele Bachmann officially announced her candidacy for president of the United States. This comes a day after the Minnesota congresswoman and tea party favorite was asked by Chris Wallace "Are you a flake?” The Fox News host apologized but kudos to Bachmann for standing her ground and not accepting. Some suggest that the question has sexist undertones and wouldn't have been asked of a man and I tend to agree.
On the other side of the world, the career of a CEO in New Zealand is on the line after comments he made last week about women's pay and their periods. Alasdair Thompson claimed that women's once-monthly problems affected their productivity, since they are likely to call in sick, and therefore they should be paid less. Will the board of Employers and Manufacturers Association do the right thing? Stay tuned.
