In 1988, in a final attempt to put a conclusive end to Kurdish resistance, the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein launched the genocidal 'Anfal' operation. An estimated 100,000 civilians were killed. Survivors were housed in resettlement camps. Smood is one of those camps.
