1. ILIACUS
DESCRIPTION
Iliacus is a large, triangular muscle sheet. It is commonly combined with psoas major and psoas minor to form the iliopsoas.
ORIGIN
Iliacus originates from the superior two thirds of the concavity of the iliac fossa, the inner lip of the iliac crest, the ventral sacro-iliac and iliolumbar ligaments, and the upper surface of the lateral part of the sacrum.
INSERTION
Iliacus inserts primarily into the lateral side of the tendon of psoas major. Some fibres insert into the femur just inferior and anterior to the lesser trochanter.
INNERVATION
Iliacus is innervated by branches of the femoral nerve from L2 and L3 spinal nerves.
BLOOD SUPPLY
Iliacus is supplied by the iliac branch of iliolumbar artery, iliac branches of the obturator artery, lateral circumflex femoral artery. Lumbar Spine Muscles Ilio-psoas physical therapy 3D illustrations.
