It's one of the worst road accidents in Shanghai in recent years. At least 11 people were killed when their bus hit a light pole, leaving another 13 injured.

In Shanghai's Pudong district on Wednesday night, a bus crash leaves eleven dead and 13 injured. It's the deadliest automobile accident Shanghai has seen in years.

The vehicle was traveling at high speed along the Pudong outer-ring expressway, when it overturned shortly before 9pm. On board were 24 passengers, seven of whom died instantly. The rest were rescued and rushed to hospital by authorities.

The cause of the crash is still being looked into, but initial investigations suggest another vehicle overtook the bus, causing the driver to lose control, crashing into a light pole and overturning.

The bus was a staff vehicle owned by Shanghai electronics manufacturer Inventec. All of those on board at the time were employees.
