In this video, Sevenish Law answers the question: How common are motorcycle accidents? Motorcycle accidents are only 1.1 percent of all crashes, according to the federal Department of Transportation. But the department’s statistics show that riders are disproportionately likely to be involved in fatal accidents. In 2007, motorcyclists were 37 times more likely to die in an accident than drivers and nine times more likely to be injured. Traffic safety experts blame this on motorcyclists’ lack of physical protection surrounding them unlike when traveling in a car or truck. In addition, most drivers causing injury to motorcyclists almost uniformly admit they never even saw the motorcycle.
