In this video, Sevenish Law answers the question: Do bicyclists have to stay as far to the right as possible? No. Local laws or ordinances may vary, but most areas require that bicyclists ride as far to the right as practicable and with the natural flow of traffic (rather than against it). Bicyclists are, however, free to move left to make turns, and are free to use and to occupy the driving lane just as a motor vehicle. Bicyclists are not required to ride off the roadway in the shoulder of the road, in debris or to place himself or herself in harm’s way just to allow a motor vehicle to pass.
