Preventing SIDS: Revised Safe Sleep Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Since the AAP recommended that parents place babies on their backs for sleep, the cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome has decreased significantly. The AAP has updated their recommendations to clarify what parents can do to best prevent SIDS and keep babies sleeping safely. A safe crib has only a mattress with a snugly fitted sheet -- no bumpers, pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, monitoring devices. And remember, drop-sided cribs are no longer recommended!
