Sydney Chinese Consulate siege ends

Police stand guard outside the Chinese Consulate building in Sydney Australia following the end of a six hour siege.
Local television reported that two men attempted an armed robbery at a nearby pub. One was arrested at the scene and the other fled into the grounds of the consulate.
Armed police responded to the incident, and a number of shots were fired.
(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) LIU KAN, CHINESE DEPUTY CONSUL GENERAL IN SYDNEY, SAYING:
"The Consulate has initiated emergency measures. We have been co-operating closely with the police after making sure that the compound and the staff are secure."
The suspect has been arrested and taken to hospital.
