Zambia's Miombo Woodlands are home to countless endangered animal species. The huge forest area has remained largely intact, but poaching is taking its toll on its animal populations. With German help, the West Lunga National Park has managed sustainably to ensure its protection as a valuable carbon sink.
The park can store up to 13 million tonnes of CO2 per year. It will also serve as a protected habitat for endangered animals. The project also foresees developing infrastructure to facilitate the park's protection and training rangers.
