A Finnish man in China has been trying to improve safety for pedestrians and traffic at a zebra crossing in East China's Fuzhou city. Despite his risky but kind efforts, some drivers still seem blind to people on the road."

Zebra crossings in China can be dangerous places, with many drivers ignoring the "People First" rule.

In Fuzhou City in East China's Fujian province, a Finnish man has decided to take the matter of pedestrian safety into his own hands -- literally -- by voluntarily directing traffic to stop at a zebra crossing.

The man, who goes by the Chinese name Ma Ruinan, walks back and forth across the crossing, directing the oncoming traffic to stop.

[Ma Ruinan, Volunteer Traffic Controller]:
"I think the driver should be aware of the danger it may brings to the pedestrians. I want to raise their awareness of thinking of the security for both themselves and the pedestrians."

Mr. Ma also encourages pedestrians to alert drivers that they need to slow down or stop.

In spite of conspicuous reminders of the "People First" rule, and the sight of the volunteer traffic controller, some drivers still ignored him.
