Staples Foundation Awards $2.5 Million to Nonprofits; Caribou Coffee Sources 100 Percent from Rainforest Alliance Certified Farms - CSR Minute for January 10, 2012

The Staples Foundation has awarded $2.5 million in grants to 112 nonprofit organizations serving at-risk youth throughout the country. Organizations were selected for their commitment to providing youth with the skills and resources to become responsible citizens. 70 percent of the grant recipients will use the funds to address education and literacy; 20 percent will support mentoring and life skills initiatives; and 10 percent will support environmental programs and services for youth with disabilities.

Caribou Coffee says it's the first major coffee retailer in the U.S. to source all its coffee and espresso beans from farms certified by the Rainforest Alliance. Rainforest Alliance certification is managed by the Sustainable Agriculture Network, a team of nonprofit conservation groups.
