A man swimming in shallow water off the coast of South Africa died on Sunday (January 15) after he was attacked by a shark.
Photographs show beach-goers and lifeguards helping the man to shore after the attack at Port St Johns on South Africa's east coast.
The victim was pulled from the sea by a lifeguard, who used a surfboard to shield himself from the danger of attack, and to stretcher the victim from the water.
