Toxic Gas Cloud Killed Three People at Haifa's Plant

Three men were killed and ten others suffered injuries in various degrees of severity due to a leak that released a cloud of toxic gas at the Haifa Oil refinery complex on Tuesday November 23rd. Preliminary investigation of the event suggests that most of the victims were not wearing protective gear. In response, Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer threatened to shut down the plant, claiming that the whole area is like a nuclear bomb and that he has been warning of this danger for years. The huge petrochemical and refining complex in Haifa has been the target of environmentalists and worried residents because of the potential for widespread danger and casualties in the event of an accident or attack.
