German president Christian Wulff visited Israel on Sunday, November 28th for the first time since taking office. President Peres welcomed his guest in an official ceremony which was held at the presidential residence in Jerusalem. At a visit to Yad Vashem, the president laid a wreath and stated that remembering the holocaust remains an unbroken maxim of German policy and that Germany sees itself responsible for protecting Israel's security and its right to exist. He also stated that the best way to ensure Israel's security in the long run is through a just peace process in the area based on a two-stated principle with secure and defined borders. Wolf was appointed for this mainly ceremonial role only six months ago and is the first president born after World War II.
