Anger over the deaths of 74 soccer fans carried over to the streets of Cairo on Thursday. Protesters waved Egyptian flags as well as flags from the local Al-alhi soccer team chanting down with military rule outside of the interior ministry.
Security forces responded with tear gas which sent thousands running
The unrest took a curious turn later in the even when a truck carrying riot police was attacked by demonstrators near Talab Harb Square. Witnesses said they saw the truck's driver fleeing on foot.
At one point, concerned locals formed a human chain around the truck to protect security forces inside. Protest leaders chanted "revolutionaries are not thugs" in a bid to calm the crowd who held off long enough for the trapped police to be rescued.
