Cheers after rescue workers pulled out a young girl alive after an avalanche buried several homes in southern Kosovo. She was trapped under 33 feet of snow.

Teams have been digging around the clock since they arrived at the remote village located on the border near Macedonia and Albania.

Nine people are dead and one person is still missing after the avalanche enveloped more than a dozen homes.

More than 500 people have been killed since Europe was hit with a punishing series of snowstorms and extreme cold --- making it the harshest winter to hit the region in decades.

Romanian officials reported at least people 68 dead on Sunday after fierce winds and heavy snow stranded many in their cars and cut off access to more than 30 villages, half of which don't have electricity.

Despite this, one girl set off on foot to the next village nearly two miles away only to be turned back by police.
