STORY: The "heart" of heavy metal was beating just fine in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night (April 11) as icons Alice Cooper, Slash and KISS legend Gene Simmons led a sea of black leather and lace onto the "black carpet" for the 4th annual Revolver Golden God Awards.
The event, held to honor the world of heavy metal, took place at Club Nokia, where hundreds of loyal fans gathered to catch a glimpse of there favorite hard rockers decked out in heavy eyeliner, body piercing and long hair.
"I don't know if there is ever gonna be anymore iconic rock stars after this," explained Cooper, best know for his stage theatrics and the teenage anthem, "School's Out."
"It seems like rock stars now just want to blend in. Look at the new generation of rock stars and they just want to be church mouses. It is the last sort of generation with attitude."
Former Guns n Roses lead Guitarist, Slash, who was among the performers on the night, called the evening a great chance to hang out with friends.
While the guitarist seemed to be in fine spirits, a representative for the Slash asked journalist at the event to not ask questions about a letter fired off by GNR frontman Axel Rose, claiming that he has no intention of attending the band's upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The awards themselves was born out of the need to offer the heavy metal community a night of its own to celebrate, since the genre is often left out at other venues.
The hardcore fans loyalty was not lost on KISS' Gene Simmons, who talked about the importance of always putting on a good show
Coinciding on the big night, is the opening a major new exhibition at the Grammy Museum called the, "Golden Gods: The History of Heavy Metal." The exhibit will teach visitors about the origins of Heavy Metal, its many sub-genera, the bands that made Heavy Metal famous and offer a look into the controversy that has surrounded the genre for the past four decades.
