The German parliament has decided to phase out nuclear power. And that means a notoriously dirty fuel is making a comeback: lignite, or brown coal. Brown coal is already Germany's leading source for electrical power, and the new energy developments promise to increase its importance. The phase-out of nuclear power is pushing producers like Vattenfall to expand their coal-fired power plants - such as the Boxberg plant in Saxony's Oberlausitz region.
