In 2006, Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister of Thailand and one of the country's most influential figures, was removed from power in a military coup, throwing the Thai political system into crisis.

This month, Samak Sundaravej, the new prime minister elected to replace Thaksin, was ordered by the Thai Constitutional Court to resign for hosting a cookery show on TV. This followed weeks of protests by the People's Alliance for Democracy, which was trying to force the pro-Thaksin prime minister to resign.

Sir David Frost speaks to Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democratic Party, Thailand's main opposition party, about the state of Thai politics and how the present crisis can be resolved.
