A rare chance for the people of Myanmar to vote for a new parliament has passed. It is the first time they have been to the polls in 20 years.

But whatever the result, it will have little impact on the dominance of the country's military government.

Critics say the vote was never going to be free and fair, but it is difficult to know the truth when election observers and journalists are banned from the country.
