In Pakistan there is a new battle under way in the Swat valley to re-open schools before the winter sets in.

When Pakistan's army went to war against Taliban fighters in the troubled valley up to one million children had their education interrupted.

More than 500 schools were destroyed during the clashes. Some no longer have windows or the walls have been blown in, others are missing desks but for the students the main thing is they are resuming their education.

Al-Jazeera's Kamal Hyder reports from Swat.
