Amnesty International released an 'Urgent Action' document regarding the case of Wang Xiaomei and her brother, Wang Xiaodong.
Wang Xiaomei, also known as Wang Junling, was detained last weekend, after her efforts to free her brother, a prisoner of conscience, caught the attention of Chinese authorities.
Authorities detained Wang Xiaodong on February 25 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual meditation discipline that has been banned in China since 1999.
Wang Xiaomei has actively sought her brother's release by writing an open letter and starting a petition. She collected signatures and thumbprints from members of 300 families in their home village, Zhouguantun.
The Zhouguantun village committee stamped the petition, and a source told the Epoch Times newspaper that it was circulated in the highest levels of government.
Amnesty International has begun a letter writing campaign that will end on July 12.
