Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has hosted the first summit of a new regional bloc of Latin American and Caribbean leaders in Caracas.
The alliance of 33 nations - known as CELAC - excludes the United States and Canada. Chavez said the time had come to put an end to what he called US hegemony.
