ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION
Venice residents were amazed and frightened by a tornado-like spiral of wind that swept across the lagoon city on Tuesday (June 12).
The whirlwind, which according to experts was not quite at the magnitude of a tornado, was clearly seen spiraling across the waters of the city and captured on mobile phones by residents.
The worst hit areas were the outlying islands, where hundreds of trees were uprooted. On the island of Sant'Elena kiosks and restaurants were also damaged.
There were no reports of injuries.
